Social Bookmarking Link Generator
On the heels of RSS feeds comes the latest tool for uncovering the invisible web (web pages buried in search engine results). Its called social bookmarking. Along with allowing you to access your bookmarked pages from any computer, you can also make these bookmarks public. This gives more exposure to sites and web pages (both good and bad) that aren't optimized to show up in the first few pages of search engine results.
Basically, much like setting up an RSS feed on your site, you can easily set up a social bookmarking feed. Can the DMCA and "Black Hat" SEO ban you from Yahoo?
Apparently yes....
Usually when you find a "dumb as a stump" site owner that swipes your copyrighted web copy and tries to use it on their site, a strongly worded email with the threat of DMCA *Digital Millennium Copyright Act* gets the creep in line pretty quickly. I guess it's like shouting, "Attorney General" to a sleazy business owner, only the hardcore crooks blow you off.
Our main website, devNIC, has moved closer to becoming the small business resource portal we envisioned, but the content, subjects as diverse as expired domain names to commodity margins, mortgage affordability, refinance costs and even lead generation have become ripe for web copy pirates.
The net thieves have found a way to swipe your web copy, claim it as their own and then get Yahoo to get you booted because they said it was their copyrighted material and not yours. Sounds crazy right? Evidently, it’s happening right now and what’s worse is the fact the Yahoo, initially, has defended its policy.
It’s a shoot first and ask questions later mentality on Yahoo’s part. The web copy thieves are licking their chops. Not only do they get a ranking piece of web copy on their site for squat, they also get you removed from the search engine. It’s like an online Coup d’etat.
All the other major search engines like Google and MSN actively protect copyrighted material, but they don’t ban you before a little informal fact finding. The Yahoo policy seems extreme if not down right scary.
If you’re not actively policing where your web copy resides offsite, then make it part of your site maintenance. As a matter of fact, this should become part of your search engine reputation management.
The easiest way to do this is do a search in Google and Yahoo with a string of text that’s unique to your content. Use “” quotes around the search term. The idea here is to spot your content without the clutter of thousands of websites using the same text. Remember to grab a cached copy of your web page too.
These people are so lazy; they rarely even change more than a few words of text from the original article or tutorial. I recently had a guy swipe a 1200 word domain name tutorial. The nitwit changed a total of 3 words of text.
A strongly worded email to the webmaster of the site will usually get results pretty quickly. Don’t shy away from threatening to contact their web hosting provider if they give you a hard time or just plain ignore you.
Notice how we didn’t say to contact Yahoo…yet. Try to deal with the site owner initially. If you’re unable to get any resolution or response, then by all means, contact Yahoo and any other search engine that has “your” copyrighted content indexed in their search results.

Real Pro Wrestling?
Yep, you read that correctly, Real Pro Wrestling will make its long awaited nationally televised debut starting Sunday March 27th @ 4:00 pm EST. on PAX and Wednesday March 30th @ 3:00 pm EST on FSN.
The event will feature some of the most decorated wrestlers in the country competing for the Real Pro Wrestling Championship and over $250,000. The success concept for RPW is using a hybrid combo of freestyle and Greco-roman wrestling in an atmosphere and a format designed to satisfy the sports purists and attract a new fan base.
From a marketing standpoint, the creators of Real Pro Wrestling, Toby Willis, Matt Case and Kenny Johnsonhave tried to overcome two major problems that wrestling has failed to address in general and in marketing a pro wrestling league. We’ll get to those problems in a minute, but…
Figures from the National High School Coaches Association show there are over 20 million current and former wrestlers in the US. Wrestling is the sixth largest participation sport in the country. Here in NY, there are over 500 high school wrestling programs.
That’s a pretty sizable market with an itch to scratch and money to spend. They buy gear and equipment, travel across the country to compete and attend training camps and pay to see many of the marquee events. The recent New York State High School Wrestling Championships drew a record 8000+ fans just for the finals.
Can Marketing Launch Real Pro Wrestling and Save the Sport?
Even with the current numbers, participation over the past twenty years has spiraled downward. Compliance with title IX has dropped NCAA division 1 wrestling programs from over 200 in the 70’s to well under 100. Elimination of the lighter weight classes from the high school to the International level has only served to shut out thousands of potential athletes from participation.
The message from the powers to be is “If you’re genetically small, sit at home and play video games.” Less participation means lower fan base and less attention from the media which needs the advertising revenue from the sponsors and merchandisers. The brainiac’s solution is to eliminate even more of the lower weight classes, dumb and dumber…go figure…
Here’s the problem with wrestling.
Getting back to the problem with wrestling; Aside from the idiocy of the current use of title IX, the reasons why wrestling has long suffered and continues to shrink is because of two major problems. First, wrestling has the sporting equivalent of a glass ceiling. The pinnacle of success for wrestlers *an NCAA or Olympic championship* leaves them little recognition for their accomplishments and almost no chance for a career or big payday. Win the Olympics and you might get a shoe endorsement.
The second problem is that, to the unfamiliar spectator, wrestling can be boring to watch.
The seasoned wrestling fan can appreciate the edge of your seat excitement of a close 3-2 decision, but the unseasoned spectator wants action, lots of action. Action draws fans, fans buy merchandise. Merchandisers, advertisers and sponsors feed the media with advertising revenue and gives the media an incentive to follow the sport.
Put wrestlers on a stage, change the rules, pay them and let kids dream again.
If you’ve got an old boring product, then change and repackage it to meet the real needs of the market. Beta max tapes died because it couldn’t meet the needs of the market, convenience. VHS did that and won. Change and repackage the sport to meet the needs of the fans and put the wrestlers on stage, in the spot light, pay them and watch participation increase from the athletes and the fans. Plus…
Kids want to identify themselves with heroes like Michael Jordan, Joe Montana or Babe Ruth. When a kid dreams of glory he’s not acting out sinking 3 pointer with 1 second left to win the championship so he can ask, “Where’s my check” Young athletes dream of being heroes. Give a kid a role model, the vision that they can compete and they’ll show up at pee wee camps when they’re 5 or 7 years old to live out they’re dreams of becoming a champion.
Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.
Sometimes the hardest thing is admitting that there’s a problem. Band-aid approaches to fixing the problem of making the matches more exciting and increasing the action have been met by rule changes that actually inhibit higher scoring. A study by Olympic and NCAA champion Randy Lewis shows a 30% drop in scoring since the 70’s.
The desire for glory and the achievement of lofty goals is one of the most rewarding things in life, but gold medals and championships don’t pay the bills. Call it dirty motivation if you like, but the lure of money has to be present for the athletes to survive as well as satisfy their primal desire for financial gain.
Real Pro Wrestling addressed the problem, finds a solution and implements it.
Finally…maybe the problems have been identified by the folks at Real Pro Wrestling and the real changes that are needed to solve them are being put into place. Without going into detail, the rules will give the wrestlers the opportunity to satisfy the fan desire of sight and sound stimulation, high scoring and non-stop action. Plus the wrestlers get a chance to showcase their talent for their sport, an opportunity for fame and glory and a long overdue payday.

Take a walk on the wild side, and give this Real Pro Wrestling thing a look. Doesn’t matter if you don’t know the difference between a gator roll and a dinner roll, you just might find yourself following a real sport with real athletes instead of the current crop of professional sports personalities, featuring overpaid underperforming bitchy millionaires.

NYSPHSAA Unfair To New York State High School Wrestling
Because the NYSPHSAA New York State Wrestling Committee refuses to waiver from its current discriminatory practice in certain state qualifying tournaments like New York State High School Wrestling, Joseph D. Morelle (D-Rochester) has introduced the “Fairness In Competition Bill" to the New York State Legislature.
The NYSPHSAA has refused to consider responsible proposals from the NYSWCA (New York State Wrestling Coaches Association) to level the playing field for New York State High School Wrestling and now this legislation is needed.
The “Fairness In Competition Bill” will force the NYSPHSAA New York State High School Wrestling Committee to adopt new rules for participation by kids in state championship events on the basis of athleticism, sportsmanship and performance and remove the current obsolete, 80 year old system of discriminating against the kids in larger sections.
The NYSWCA proposes a new two division format with guaranteed participation by kids in all sections. The new rules would simply expand the tournament with multiple-entry participation by adding additional kids based proportionately on the number of schools in each section. You can think of it as the same thing that’s used by the House of Representatives. New York has a larger population than Arizona, so New York gets more representatives etc…
The kids who participate in New York State High School Wrestling deserve a state qualifying tournament format with multiple-entries to ensure the states best athletes get the exposure, college recruitment attention and that “experience of a lifetime” that they work so hard for.

What are the benefits for the kids?

- More kids participate at the best State Wrestling Championships in America
Where does the discrimination exist?
The current 80 year old system discriminates in a number of areas…First, the kids from the larger sections must compete against opponents from up to 50 schools, while smaller sections have as little as 2 schools. In some cases the two best wrestlers in the state sometimes must compete in the sectional qualifying tournament which eliminates talented athletes from state competition.
This creates poor college recruitment opportunities for many athletes because they are unable to showcase their talents at the only wrestling event that receives widespread media and college recruitment attention.
New York State Wrestling has had a long history of poor recruitment by college wrestling programs compared to many other states like Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Ohio because many kids simply go undiscovered. Secondly, some sports like wrestling are at a disadvantage when it comes to qualifying for the state championships in New York. We’ll do the comparison in a minute, but first…
What’s the deal with the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Committee?
The threat of legislation and their refusal to change has the NYSPHSAA “grabbing at straws” in a power struggle that clearly has their own interests ahead of the kids. Instead of looking at alternatives to help the student/athletes, they’ve stooped to the level of simply digging in their heels and resisting changing the system with a sleazy disinformation campaign. The letter they’ve wasted state taxpayer money to distribute to New York State High Schools is so blatantly untrue, only a hockey puck would believe what they’re using to defend their position.
One of the “doozies” is their opinion that changing the current system would disrupt the current regular season scheduling. Hmmm…Interesting, considering that the NYSPHSAA twisted itself into a pretzel to approve the scheduling changes needed to accommodate the New York State Football Tournament in the 90’s.
Point of fact, for New York State High School Wrestling, a multiple-entry format will have almost no impact on the current regular season schedule. It would simply allow more participants from the sectional qualifying tournaments to participate in the state tournament based on the size of the individual sections. Why is this legislation needed?
You need to look no further than to see the annual anguish and disappointment on the faces of the athletes, their teammates and their families. This scene was played out at dozens of high schools across New York State again last weekend as a single wrestler from large and small school divisions was chosen to represent their section at the New York State High School Wrestling Championships at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, NY on March 5th-6th. The remaining wrestlers saw their season come to an end and unfortunately, it's sometimes due to poor officiating.
No other sport requires the commitment to training, diet, strength, agility, flexibility, stamina and mental toughness as the sport of wrestling. Wrestling is one of the few sports where undersized student/athletes can compete, achieve success at the highest levels of competition and attract college recruiters. If you disagree, then go sit on a traffic cone, because you’re wrong.
As promised earlier, other kids from sports like swimming and track have an advantage because they merely have to meet time requirements to qualify for their New York State Tournaments. Hockey allows for additional participants based on the number of programs in individual sections. The NYSPHSAA New York State Wrestling Committee must stop sitting on its hands and adopt a multiple-entry state qualifying format that fairly allows wrestling participation equal to other sports.
In a recent survey, 300 high school head coaches and school superintendents were polled on their opinion of adopting a multiple-entry format for the New York State High School Wrestling Tournament. 134 responses were sent back…129 in favor of multiple entries and only 5 opposing it.
What are the experts saying?
The following is a quote from Jack Spates of the University of Oklahoma, “I feel strongly about this. Anyone who perpetuates the old system doesn’t have the best interest of the kids at heart. Change is needed.”
Don Murray from SUNY Brockport said, “Anytime you can create more opportunities for kids to compete you have more young men come out and more staying with it. It becomes a trickle-down effect. There will be more fans and more publicity for schools.”
Greg Strobel from Lehigh University said, “Colorado drew 14,000 people for its first session and 17,000 for the finals. Colorado is not nearly as good as New York. It’s simple; more kids, more people more kids get recruited.”
What needs to be done and what can you do to help?
Over 30 years ago, California, faced with a problem similar to New York State High School Wrestling adopted a multiple-entry format for their state wrestling tournament. In Iowa, the State High School Wrestling Tournament draws almost 90,000 fans, is covered by 7 TV stations, 50 radio stations and 183 newspapers. The NYPHSAA must look to the successes of many other states with multiple-entry formats and provide the kids in the New York State Wrestling Program the same benefits.

What happens if the NYSPHSAA refuses to budge and the legislation fails?
Wrestlers, their families and supporters are passionate about their sport The fight for change will continue with possible statewide boycotts of the corporate sponsors of the NYSPHSAA. Corporate sponsors of the NYSPHSAA need to become aware that their support of the NYSPHSAA and its refusal to pursue equality in statewide tournament participation could have a negative effect on their bottom line.
Why is this posted on an Internet business blog?
Because change is needed and it’s the right thing to do for the kids.

This Will Interest Affiliates Using Google Adwords

Here in NY, the Blizzard of '05 is just slammed the tri-state area, but two weeks ago, affiliates using Google Adwords got slammed too.
The Google Cash Method, which basically allowed anyone with a modem and a credit card to sign up for one of a gazillion affiliate programs and drive traffic to the product owners website in minutes using Google Adwords...ended. Well, maybe not ended...but drastically changed.
Google will only display 2 ads at the same time for any given keyword that points to the same website. Guess which ads get displayed?..........
The ones with the highest CTR. That means only the 2 best ads get to play using the same URL. Everyone else has to learn how to write better ad copy or........Heaven forbid...
Direct the traffic to an actual website; where you need good relative content to provide your prospective clients a reason to continue on their way to the actual website, where the sale is made.
Google is actually helping the Adwords addicts who were driving bid prices up so high they weren't making any money anyway. Sort of like removing the temptation of unknowingly throwing their money down the drain in the hopes of getting a sales *high* that wasn't going to happen anyway.
Google must have seen the short term profit windfall as a long term image problem. Plus, as with any bubble that's created with artificially high prices, *like the bid prices for keywords* when it bursts, it's usuallly pretty ugly. ICANN New Domain Name Transfer Policy Change Now In Effect

11/12/04...Beginning today, the new ICANN transfer policy goes into effect. The new ICANN transfer policy is being implemented because of widespread abuse by many registrars. They effectively hold their customer's domain names hostage by making it extremely difficult for disgruntled customers to transfer domains away from these companies.
No need to mention any names, but we'll give you a hint. The registrars that are whining like yapping poodles about your domains being hijacked are likely culprits.
Simply "lock" your domains to guard against unauthorized transfers and sleep like a baby knowing your domains are safe.
There has been widespread complaints from domain name owners who've experienced continued frustration in their attempts to transfer domains away from the overpriced or lousy services from their current registrars.

Mickey Mantle Restaurant Saga (Update)

Sorry bout the lazy updat to this story It's old news now, but better late than never eh'. The owner of the Mickey Mantle Restaurant in NY suddenly backed off on his idea to temporarily rename the place after the former Red Sox hall of famer Ted Williams.
He said it was just a ruse and never really planned on doing it. Hmmm...cept now he's got a lot of Red Sox garb on his hands and a sign he had to take down. Sounds more like a hit and Run DMC to me. Can't beat free media coverage tho.

Mickey Mantle Restaurant is Ted Williams Restaurant (Almost), For Boston Red Sox Fans In NY

Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees, New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox. It’s the 800 pound gorilla of rivalries in all of sports and a restaurant owner “in NY” might have hit a home run because of it. The owner of the Mickey Mantle Restaurant will (temporarily) rename the themed eatery as Ted Williams Restaurant for the duration of the World Series.
“Holy Cow”…He’s covering the Mickey Mantle name with Ted Williams…For some New York Yankee fans and the Mickey Mantle family, that’s akin to turning from an American to a French citizen.
The owner of Mickey Mantle Restaurant claims that Mantle would’ve been so impressed by the Boston Red Sox victory that he just had to do it. (I’ve always been amused by people who claim to know what the deceased would’ve said or done.) How he knows Mantle wouldn’t have been so pissed, that he would’ve needed a rabies shot is beyond me; but you gotta give this guy credit for something. He’s pulled off one of the slickest marketing maneuvers since the guy that sent out women’s panties with his sales letter. (I’ll get to that goodie in a minute.)
Getting a week of free print, radio and TV coverage is nothing to sneeze at, unless of course you end up shooting yourself in the foot to get it. But regardless of the New York Yankee fan’s and the Mantle family’s initial shock, they’ll probably get over it once the World Series is over.
Think about it for a minute though, by throwing a bone to the underground army of Boston Red Sox fans living in NY, he can probably count on them as adoring repeat customers even after the World Series is over for giving them some recognition.
What about the Bomber fans? They’ll probably forget about this once the World Series is over and the name gets changed back. Most likely going back to satisfying a primal need…hunger! So, what’s the cost? I dunno, how much could it cost to cover a sign for ten days? I bet it’s a lot less than all the coverage he got. You just can’t beat free media attention. Anyway...
Oh Yeah…That panty guy? Well, he sent out pairs of women’s panties to his mailing list of potential guitar students with a smartly worded hook in his letter, “if you think it’s cool getting them mailed to you, wait till you get them thrown at you.” BTW…he also hijacked some media attention too, and the mailing? It worked…ya gotta love this marketing stuff.

Report from John Carlton's "License To Steal" Seminar

This should've been written Tuesday, but NY to Reno and back in three days is rough duty. Pile on two days of having your brain transfused with copywriting secrets from the likes of John Carlton and you'd know what I mean when I say I'm fried. I think the blood just started flowin' back into my fat head today, but enough about that...Let's get on with it.
This was my first world class seminar and I can't stress the energy I got from being around Carlton and the other attendees. JC set the stage for learning when he announced that egos were to be left at the door. I felt comfortable even though I was surrounded by some of the major "players" in the business.
The uniqueness of this gathering was twofold...first, there was no upsellling of any other products or services. Second, the format of the thing was unique in that there was no vagueness in the procedures that Carlton used to achieve the lofty success he's quietly become famous for.
Learning his copywriting prowess was accomplished by having some of his best letters deconstructed line by line, sentence by sentence and bullet by bullet. Every nuance was analyzed, including the emotional trigger mechanisms used and even the choice of fonts and page formatting...Priceless
He said he'll never do another one of these because they're just "too damn hard to do." Maybe another 32 people will get lucky if he ever decides to change his mind and do this type of gig again. Keep your fingers crossed...

Britney Spears Makes Joe Vitale Curious

Imagine seeing images that make a product just click subconsciously in the back of your mind and motivate you to take action. It’s a marketer’s dream. Well it takes one to know one and Joe Vitale sez that’s exactly what Elizabeth Arden’s new commercial for Britney Spears “Curious” perfume does.
The Britney Spears "Curious" commercial features the curvaceous diva as the "biscuit" in a smorgasbord of sexual desire, anticipation and innuendo.
Joe Vitale, President of Hypnotic Marketing Inc. is the author of hundreds of books and articles and an expert in the field of “hypnotic writing.” He’s made a living promoting products and services by painting vivid images with the written word.
Vitale sez her new ad, “Plays on sexuality, mystery and curiosity” and that, “Unless her perfume truly stinks, people are going to buy it almost mindlessly.”
Subliminal advertising is forbidden fruit as far as the FCC is concerned and research has shown that it’s not as successful as James Vicary’s movie theater test led people to believe.
We’ve all seen the Goodyear blimp lumbering overhead at sporting events and it doesn’t exactly motivate us to stampede to the local tire store to slap on a set of new radial tires, but tell a story and invoke images that stir up emotions like curiosity, greed or passion and you can see advertisers pushing the envelope on deception. Vitale goes on to say
“Anything that can get a message into your mind will be tried by advertisers” and also asks “When is it manipulation and when is it persuasion”?

Scott Muni-He'll be missed and remembered

Scott Muni died yesterday. He was 74. Anyone who "cut their teeth" about life, love and rock n' roll around the NYC area in the decade between 65' and 75' feels a little bit empty today.
Although there was Vietnam, the gas crisis (I remember having to walk to school in the dark) and the Nixon resignation, there was a certain innocense about that time that I think we'll never feel again.
We had no worries about AIDS, terrorism, global warming, toxic mold, mad cow disease-yadda yadda yadda. WE were loose, carefree and we loved our music. You probably have at least one memory of drivin' around in your dad's Chevy, packed with your friends singing along to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody or hangin in your bedroom with a black light on and zoning out to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.
You would turn on WNEW FM and there he was, the "professor"...Scott Muni. He was 20 to 30 years older than most of us, but he was like that "cool" dad you wish you had.
He played our music and understood what we wanted outta life. Let us do our thing as long as we didn't hurt anybody else (including ourselves).
Those days are done. We'll miss the man with the scruffy voice yakkin' about his knowledge of music, giving us direction and playin' our songs. We'll always remember him.

Is There A Google Web Browser Brewin?

Google registered the domain name gbrowser.com in April, 2004. Some forward thinking “amigos” are speculating a Google web browser might be in the works, or maybe “pasted” to some white board as a list of possible future products.
Speculation is good. It’s what keeps markets liquid and ideas flowing, so let’s take a poke at the possibility of a Google browser.
Microsoft is expert at “steal and deliver.” At one point Netscape controlled most of the web browser market. Microsoft saw the explosion of the internet and was determined to take part in the fun. Today, Netscape is barely hangin’ onto a tiny piece of the browser market. Microsoft “put a fork in em.”
Heck, Microsoft seems to arrive at the prom late, but they always get to leave the party with the prom queen. Is that luck, stealth piracy, or a very strategic business plan?
There’s no secret that Microsoft has seen enough with the search engine market to know that they’re leaving big money on the table if they just sit on the sidelines as Google continues to increase its dominance. With PPC, there’s a huge revenue stream for search engine companies. Their search engine is almost ready for prime time. So what’s this have to do with speculation on a Google browser?
Google might be thinking this through in political terms. Not Politics per se`, but political campaign marketing. One of the most effective political strategies is to tap into your competitor’s base and make them fight to retain what was easily theirs by default. Forcing them to devote resources to shore up their base instead of trying to “steal and deliver” on the competition’s turf.
Google is now flush with cash and should be looking to expand its markets. Netscape is proof that you can’t survive as a “one trick pony.” Even AOL couldn’t save it. Is this a good place to start?...Maybe, maybe not…One thing is for sure, wherever they attempt to take on Microsoft, it should be fun to watch.

There’s no rah rah “headshrinker horsesh#t” about getting motivated or whining about the cards you’ve been dealt in life. He won’t blow sunshine up your butt when you’re screwin’ up and he’ll “cyber-slap” you right in the head if you think you’ve conquered the universe.
Just take his medicine for starting, running and maintaining a successful business with his attitude about achieving success, facing failure and pluggin’ the holes in life that mess most of us up. Don’t be afraid. The pain of finding out the truth will help cure the “anti-success” disease that paralyzes us into doing nothing. You’ll be saying to yourself, “holy sh#t he’s right, I’ve done that, I’ve neglected to do that, I’ve let other people unnecessarily influence me about that. Go ahead, check it out and then whack yourself with a rolled up newspaper, I did!

Blogs and Bloggers...The New Wave of Interactive Media

It's a somewhat typical fall afternoon here in NY. What's left of 'killer" huricane Ivan is lazily passing through. I'm checkin' out some of the college football games and trying to clean up the yard around this "chicken coop" house in between the downpours, but some very untypical winds a swirling around right now.
The firestorm created this week by from the "memogate" controversy at CBS is a shot across the bow for the mainstream media.
Whether it's from the right or the left, what the media reports is no longer like "a street in the Bronx...One Way." They should expect and prepare to be challenged on what is dispensed as newsworthy and accurate or risk exstinction. Blogs and bloggers have come full circle and made the news media interactive, whether they like it or not.
The media can bang their heads against the wall, kick and scream all they want, but if they don't adapt to blogs and the new wave of interactive media, it's gonna get even uglier. Blogs are the "gum under their shoe."
How the heck did all this happen?
Blogs were once considered the "web toy" of techno-geeks until the cat got outta the bag. In reality they're one of the most non-technical tools on the web. Unlike a standard website, you can literally have a blog up and running in minutes and your monthly "nut" is about the price of a Big Mac.

In today's rushed "I gotta go, my car is running" society, everbody wants things quick, easy and cheap so they can move on to the other 37 things on their daily agenda. Blogs are the "fast food" of interactive media. Love em' or hate em'...but blogs are here to stay.

John Reese...Traffic Secrets

As promised, some feedback..........First, unless you've got absolutley nothing going on, your not gonna get through this course in a week. It's an ultra-detailed presciption for slowly and systematically building targeted traffic. Implementing the bonanza of procedures alone just ain't gonna happen overnight.
If you're not willing to put a lot of effort into research of your target market, then you're not going to reap the benefits.
Businesses like devNIC's that market commodity type products and services like domain names, need to establish co-competitors.......Hmmmm......have I lost my marbles?
Most of the traffic to your site, even if targeted will not buy from you for a number of reasons. Could be price, selection, your layout or whatever. My personal "pet peeve" is any site with a political agenda....Sorry, but it just annoys the hell outta me.
Some sites try and upsell with still more low margin commodity type products and services. Even these "upsell" products will eventually become victims of continued price cutting.
The adult industry has taken the baton with with this co-competitor online business model by co-promoting each other's sites. In effect, they pass the targeted traffic around to their competitors, even the ones with similar content.
This looks like the only way to protect already low margins in non-niche markets.

And an expensive week it was.....The first batter up to the plate was the copywriting "secret weapon," John Carlton.......
He's been consistently and quietly upstaging the "so called" experts for 20 years. I'm a subscriber to his copywriting secrets course and the Marketing Rebel Rant newsletter...and they're nothing short of amazing......
When he sent word of his October, "License to Steal" copywrting seminar in Reno........I was in.......It's gonna be one of the most talked about seminars in a long time.......

Google IPO Hits The Street

Google closed today at $100.33 and with an offering price of $85 a share, it looked to be a successful IPO, but were there other forces at work here?
They underallocated investors to the tune of 26%, creating a liittle bit of a supply and demand problem, but put happy faces on the investors that were able to get in........
I was personally impressed by Google's desire to use a "Dutch Auction" to try and trump the Wall Street "Old Boy" network from snagging most of the IPO shares for its biggest clients.
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out over the coming months.
